New Spring by Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time Prequel Novel)

WoT00_NewSpringSynopsis:

New Spring describes events which take place twenty years before the events of The Eye of the World (The Wheel of Time Book 1). The story begins in the last days of the Aiel War, and the Battle of the Shining Walls around Tar Valon. It is set primarily in Tar Valon and theBorderlands, specifically Kandor.

New Spring focuses mainly on Moiraine Damodred and Siuan Sanche, two Aes Sedai new to the sisterhood, and how a young Moiraine became Aes Sedai, metLan Mandragoran and made him her Warder. The novel also explains how Moiraine and Siuan witnessed a prophecy of the Dragon’s rebirth and came to begin investigating the Karaethon Cycle, the Prophecie of the Dragon, decades before discovering Rand al’Thor.

My Thoughts:

I loved the Wheel of Time series since I was told by my brother to read Eye of the World (which was book 1 of the series) – this prequel released around the time of Book 10 or 11, filled in some back story that was eluded to later on in the series.  As a stand alone story its not bad, but i’d hold off until you read more of main series of books to fully appreciate the characters and what’s coming…  If you love the Wheel of Time Series then by all means if you haven’t read this get a copy! Compared to Robert Jordan’s over books in the series this is an easy and quick read as its about half if not less pages then his books average in the series. A Great world only alluded to and ready to be explored… and it all begins here. 😉
