It’s that time of the year again! This year Mr. Mayhew joined me as we sat and watched Wrestlemania 31 on WWE Network for 9.99 (Do I get a month free for that plug Vince/Steph/Hunter?) We both agreed its been a long time since we watched PPV’s together, back in the day we’d all get together and watch WCW, ECW, WWF/E PPVs… those where the days…. Anyway how’d did this year’s show of shows turn out??
The Preshow started out withTyson Kidd and Cesaro (c) (with Natalya) defeating The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Big E) (with Xavier Woods), Los Matadores (Diego and Fernando) (with El Torito), and The Usos (Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso) (with Naomi) in Fatal 4-Way tag team match for the WWE Tag Team Championship. One of the Uso’s was “hurt” early on and left the match after it started, not sure which one – after that it was your typical crazy 4-way. Lots of high spots with mine personally being Natalya putting El Torito in a sharpshooter, and Cesaro stealing a vicotry to retain the belts.
The André the Giant Memorial Trophy was won by Big Show last eliminating Damien Mizdow who finally turned on The Miz. Great action started at the kick off and out to start from AXELMANIA!
Daniel Bryan defeated Bad News Barrett (c), R-Truth, Dean Ambrose, Luke Harper, Dolph Ziggler and Stardust 7-man Ladder match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship, this match really elevated the IC title to me. Everyone wanted the belt bad and it showed each man had a spot and as always I love Stardusts insanity! His agility is amazing! Bryan and Ziggler will be feuding over the title for sure in the coming months, and that’s a good thing!
Randy Orton defeated Seth Rollins (with Joey Mercury and Jamie Noble). Great match, both men know how to wrestle and flowed nicely move to move. That last RKO after Rollins went for the Curb Stomp – Epic. Find a video its worth it.
Triple H defeated Sting in a No Disqualification match. Decent match. DX (Road Dogg, Billy Gunn, X-pac, Shawn Michaels) showed up, the NWO showed (Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall). Fight ensued. Sting broke Triple H’s sledgehammer, HHH hit sting with small part of it for the win.
AJ Lee and Paige defeated The Bella Twins (Brie Bella and Nikki Bella) by submission. Decent Diva match, though a shame the two best Divas are Lee & Paige aren’t wrestling each other, but when your roster is thin talent wise this is what you get – though i will say Bella’s have improved alot over the years…
John Cena defeated Rusev (c) (with Lana) Singles match for the WWE United States Championship. Big Russian entrance, minimal Cena entrance – back forth Rusev bumped into Lana then an Attitude adjustment from Cena for the win. Rusev leaves Lana behind as she is helped backstage by officials. I wonder if they will start feuding and she’ll introduce a new person to take out Rusev?
The Undertaker defeated Bray Wyatt. The Man Came around and looked more like he did 10 years ago. Started off with classic taker moves. Great back and forth match with another tombstone to finish of Wyatt.
Seth Rollins defeated Brock Lesnar (c) (with Paul Heyman) and Roman Reigns. Lesnar dominated Reigns to the fans delight for much of the match, then while outside Lesnar head first into ring pole busted him wide open. Reigns hits like a billion Superman Punch combo, Lesnar refuses to stay down. As both men are down clearly beaten, Rollins cashes in his Money in the Bank. Making it a 3-way dance, then Curb Stomps both men, Lesnar reverses a second Curb Stomp as Reigns spears him, then Rollins gives Reigns another Curb Stomp for the 1-2-3. The beast should be on a rampage and very much let loose in the coming weeks with that new 3 year deal, also he was never pinned for the title… I expect Rollins to do a lot of running & maybe an Authority Vs. Lesnar angle….
Great Mania with a great friend. Bring on Extreme Rules!!
